AUXSAR COURSE

This is to announce that F87 (Craig Smith) and F88 (David Ihle) will begin teaching the AUXSAR specialty course beginning Sunday Mar. 9 and continuing on the following Sundays Mar. 16, (skip Easter 23) and 30 and April 6.

Classes will be held at the Vestavia Hills Civic Center from 1400-1700.

No uniform required.

Bring course manuals and obtain charting tools of at least dividers and parallel rulers.

For first class read chapters 1 and 2 and answer questions at end of chapter.

We will also review charts and basic navigation skills.

2008 Goals for Flotilla 87

  1. Increase membership.
  2. Present PE classes, ABC, navigation, Suddenly in Command, 30 minute classes at West Marine, etc.
  3. VSCs
  4. Member training, toward AUXOP, TCT, etc.
  5. Missions on the water that are planned, purposeful, significant, coordinated (e.g. with marine patrol), and well executed. Incorporate planning for emergencies like bad weather, tornadoes, SAR.
  6. Communications network, Ham, VHF, phone.
  7. Web page development and upkeep.
  8. Social interactions, F88, meetings, activities.
  9. Silver Oar Award.
  10. DSAR and NSAR competition development.
