The flotilla is the basic Auxiliary organizational unit and the working level that translates programs into action. Each flotilla is led and managed by a Flotilla Commander (FC). All Auxiliarists must be members of a flotilla.
Flotilla 87 was chartered in the Birmingham area in the early 60's by Commodore Dr. Oliver Brand, who is still an active member of flotilla 87. 87 is one of several flotillas that comprise the next level of organization, Division 8, which is included in the District 8CR (Coastal Region), of the National Auxiliary organization.
